The largest interstate wreck happened yesterday as a 70
car pile-up is credited as saving lives. The wreck happened on Interstate 95
located on the North bound lanes about 3 miles south of Rocky Mount where the
Oak Level Road crosses over the Interstate. It happened in the early morning hour
around 5AM as a herd of deer were scene crossing the interstate. This caused
two big rigs to crass into one another in order to avoid hitting the deer that
was numbered to be around 20 or more. As the two big rigs collided it sent one
of the big rigs through the tree divide into the south bound lanes effectively
closing those lanes as well.
With no warning, multiple vehicles proceeded to crash
into both rigs. It wasn’t until a State trooper happened to appear on the scene
and stop future vehicles from harm. As rescue crews arrive on scene in what was
describes as a war zone were shocked at what they had scene. On the North bound
lanes survivors were huddled around a Krispy Kreme truck. Everyone was in good
spirits as were those in the South bound lanes. People there were being served
Pepsi products from a cold bottle truck that had flipped over. The driver was
OK but the whole roadway was covered in soft drinks.
Throughout the whole ordeal, the deer that were crossing
the roadway were still there grazing not too far away. A few people stated that
they wish it was still deer season. The two drivers who originally caused the
wreck were not charged and by the late afternoon all lanes were opened as
traffic were backed up for at least 10 miles. PETA released a statement praising
the two drivers for putting the safety of the deer over their own lives and the
lives of so many other people and property.
